We are thinking about ways to integrate travel and cost without making it too much of a simple "pay to get there" scheme. We will cdertainly have plots that span different cities/regions, but how we will handle travel remains to be seen.

I thought the way that EQOA did it (by allowing fast-travel to nearby towns, but making it so you couldn't travel to the other side of the country without stopping in several towns on the way) worked pretty well. Maybe being able to use the tube or taxi for differant areas geographically close but only have one airport per region.

Back to the names needing to be unique, if my character dies would I be able to reuse the same name for a new character?

Since death isn't permanent in SR:O, there would at least not be any immediate need to do so.

That's right. My mistake. The other unofficial Shadowrun that was in development when Cliffhanger purchased the licence was the one that was going to have death be permenent. I'm interested to know what the penalties for death will be. In DCUO there is no penalty for dying, resulting in many players who know they don't have to be cautious or careful in battle. It will be nice to have players accountable for their actions again.

which one?
Awakened MMO?
Or the old SRO?
The OLD SRO only wanted PermaDeath for things like HMHVV, Drakes and Cyber-Zombies.
Huge ammount of Power, equally annoying Risk . .

http://awakenedmmo.org/

One of the programmers thought it would be good to make death permenent to be more true to the pnp version.

/edit: I was just looking at their forum and the developers are still discussing game design. Did Cliffhanger give permission to continue development since Microsoft said it was okay earlier?

No, we haven't given explicit permission, but we don't beleve in killing fan projects as a principle. They have been on that for long enough, who are we to say they should stop?

sheesh, that looks like my buddies . . aside from the dog at least . .
also: i had thought a company that got the IP to Jagged Alliance would be bigger o.O
The Shadowrun IP is, sadly, not good for measuring such things . .
