Ruleset/InGameTimeline?
« on: January 28, 2012, 09:56:15 pm »
Ok, so i browsed through the QnA-Thread a bit (frag but that thing got hoop-big x.x) and i could not really find  out wether the game would be closer to the SR3 or SR4 rule-set and what the starting point in the time line would be used in game . .

I'd be hoping for it to be close to SR3 than SR4, because i seriously dislike the SR4 crunch and fluff . .
The SR3 Ruleset had more rules for all kinds of stuff, especially decking and rigging, which were too cumbersome and complicated to do at the table usually . . but this being a computer game would take care of THAT problem at least . .
On the other hand, many people are going to miss the SR4 toys like comlinks and the such . .

So, any Info on this somewhere? O.o

I don't mean to be snippy at all and maybe primetide will take this thread and give us some additional informations, but there is something about that in the Q/A (which is, indeed, very long :( ):

Check out the third point here and the second point here.

I am afraid I do not know how to link to specific lines within a posting

Hah, yes. Primetide, do you maybe have some further insight to offer on the issue at hand for our Steelsoul here?

For those just arriving, be fair to the devs.  They're finishing up another game before they devote their full time to Shadowrun.  Which means they probably havent had the time to check how easy coding a particular ruleset etc might be.

I am in no way informed, but I would assume they're going to use the latest ruleset with a few tweaks for online play.  As tends to be done by all game developers that use a PnP ruleset for their games.  That would also set the timeline somewhere after 2070 which i'm pretty sure they did mention.  We've had some discussions about doing things before then, through a BTL style of play just for fun, but that would have to come after they fleshed out the main game.

He probably has.
Now the hard part:
How much is he allowed to tell us? ._.

With initial maps having matrix parts running in the same map, AR makes it easier really.

Well, while I personally have a lot of love for the less...modern times of SR3, we are going to base our setting on the current timeline - heck, we are evn going to crossover stuff from ongoing PnP plots.
That being said, the 'feeling' we are going for is a bit less polished, more gritty, which was more what the SR3 edition was about, in my view.
Regarding rules - the conversion of many rules will sort of blur the rules distinction anyway and some things are just plain parctical. Take comlinks for example: Players will have the ability to chat in the game (indeed they could use any other chat program outside the game for that matter), so assuming everyone has a comlink pretty much emulates that part well. Same thing goes for AR - a wondeful way to overlay matrix info over the actual map layer, as opposed to jacking in somewhere and then being "alone" in the game from that point on as a decker/hacker.
I know rules are VERY important for the PnP - they will be slightly less so for our game, since we pretty much run it under different conditions anyway.
