Issues (Meh bad title is bad)
« on: October 16, 2011, 12:16:40 pm »
Hello there,

Not to ruin the general happy mood but, if I remember correctly, there were some legal issues with Microsoft about Shadowrun videogames. I wonder if all's already settled for such legal aspect. It would be quite disappointing to see this Project die for some legal crap.

Keep the good work up Cliffhanger!

ah, that's easy. I borrowed money from my mother so we could legally obtain the license (which in turn belongs to Microsoft). This is actually done by the book :)

Actually, question on that though.  You got the rights from Microsoft, but is that the complete rights to all Shadowrun video games or is it just the rights to do this game only?  Its ok either way, but Microsoft has been such a pain about it in the past and if anyone was to want to do a new single player game or a full blown MMO it would be nice for the community to know who has the final say in that.

You might not know Primetide, but is there any chance at all that Smith & Tinker will eventually get that license away from Microsoft so that they could choose another developer/publisher to do games since MS has pretty much said they don't care?

@ Urza

I've camped S&T's website since they first launched and it doesn't appear that Mr. Weisman has much focus on the computer gaming side of things currently for all of those old FASA licenses. Currently there are 2 computer/console gaming efforts that are public: This one and a Mech Warrior restart being done by Piranah Games.

I don't see Microsoft giving up full rights back to Weisman as they can just sublicense out and receive money for others making games. As fans we can only hope that developers who make any games actually played the pencil and paper versions and have a desire to make a game as close to the original systems as possible as that's what made them have charm.

Jordan Weisman's responsible for the recently-released Crimson: Steam Pirates, which is based on the old Crimson Skies game/setting. He's just doing it via HareBrained Schemes rather than Smith & Tinker.
