I mentioned it somewhere else, but I feel I have to mention it again: Of course the Shadowrun setting is well suited for product placement since it relates to corporations that are already existent in our world today. I personally think, however, that merging my spare-time activity and advertisement is a friggin' awful idea. After all, I want to have a good time playing, rather than, possibly, having to look at some advertisement stream or something like that (I am well aware corporations might already pay money simply to somehow see their name represented somewhere. However, I doubt that they would pay a lot for sanctioning in game products and possible be able to change a few names / implement some symbols of their own).

But, I guess, as long as it doesn't disturb the game, is well implemented and raises enough money that the players can feel a difference (in quality of the game and/or in the amount they need to pay) it would sill be bearable.

About the MAC-adress thing: Decivre already mentioned it. You can simply run Virtual Machines as well that supply artificial MAC-addresses.

Related to the current topic: Well, I would prefer a 'cell-phone subscription model' to a pay-per-month-model - and that of course includes SR:O. But I am not sure whether CP wants to go that path.

Except many real-life companies already get name recognition in Shadowrun as-is. I'm just recommending that the devs try to turn this into a revenue stream. Check out your core book. You'll find Baretta pistols, Sony commlinks, Yamaha motorcycles, Honda cars, Cessna planes and more filling out the inventory section. That's been part and parcel of the game for the last two decades (hell, you can even see these brand name references in Battletech, if you know where to look), and I doubt anyone has been paying for it since. Why not try to make them start?

Besides, there's plenty of space for advertising that isn't obnoxious. In fact, Shadowrun is the one setting where even obnoxious advertising fits in... it does take place in a world overran by corporate power. If we didn't see billboards all over the place advertising corporate products, it probably wouldn't feel right. Plus, you can have banner ads on menus, and splash ads on load screens. They don't tend to annoy me unless they obstruct gameplay, and they don't tend to in either of those places.

Hello, I know I am VERY new to this forum but I heard about and decided to check it out. I don't know how many people may hate me after throwing out my simple idea but I still want to give it a shot.
So Shadowrun Online is going to be an over the head view game. Which goes with the old games, now what if they could try to fit the best of both worlds? Yes, I am a FPS fan and hearing this will be over the head was exciting and depressing. I've personally never liked having to watch my character from above but I've also always wanted to try the old RPG Shadowrun style.

Where you could switch between over the head view and first person view. Play either one or play a little of both.

Before anyone possibly says anything, I just wanted to clarify my previous idea. I am not talking about changing the story or anything like that, just the view of how you play the game. I am all for the story, im ok with the browser based (Except my computer sucks atm and am trying to get the spare money to build a new one). Just simply for it to be added where you can choose or switch back and forth from viewing your character from the sky to viewing them in first person; or if at the very least, maybe in third person.

Hey TruYadoo and welcome to the forums.

The game is....how to say this...doesn't fit a first person point of view. Don't think of this game like an MMO like your standard ones when it comes to controling an avatar. This one is more like Jagged Alliance, XCOM, Diablo, Silent Storm...third person isometric view games.

The combat will also be turn based (if that is still the plan) which I don't think works very well with a first person view. Strategic combat will be the focus and third person view gives a better view of what's going on on the whole battlefield.

Ahh yeah, if it does become turn based, it wouldn't really work out as a FPS. =(

haha
One of my ex-friends who had just recently "stabbed me in the back" over some stupid crap; him and I awhile ago thought up a new game hybrid. Turn Based FPS, modern combat like Call of Duty. And we even went as far as having player Commanders with player Units. Being, a real player watches over their units and moves them from block to block each turn while trying to eliminate the other Commander's units. We got it functional on CoD Black Ops using the "Honor Code", and follow the rules. It was extremely fun but very confusing at first.

It isn't so much a question of gameplay, but of graphics and performance - 1st person means MUCH more textures, which need to look great on close up. we cannot afford this in the browser, or maps would be much smaller...
Yay for the Flaming Carrot

=( Yeah, I would love to play thru the Shadowrun RPG gameplay but I've personally been an FPS gamer and I've played some over the head view games before and it just kinda of got annoying (to me at least)

I'd dare say, and I apologize if I am speaking out of turn, that the majority of us that are here now wouldn't be here if it were a FPS.

I think Microsoft, which did have lots of money to use, pretty much proved that those in the majority who know about the Shadowrun IP aren't very interested in an FPS version of it. I'm very happy that CP is going more RPG with the IP as that's who and what Shadowrun is in my mind.

If I want FPS I'll hop on BF3. When I fight in Shadowrun I want to use as many of the skills and abilities that I have read about and used in the pencil and paper version over the last 18+ years.

Even if it was switchable? To be play as either or..

And i wasn't trying to put down the old version of Sky view. I'm just personally use to First Person perspective games and Sky view kind of hurts my eyes. I really would love to play through the story of SR as the Xbox 360 FPS version didn't include the story.

If it had both the third person Isometric and a FPV it wouldn't bother me as it wouldn't change the gameplay type of being turn-based combat. That said in my opinion people playing such a game in first person view would be at a big disadvantage in PvE and certainly PvP.

As far as FPS (first person shooter) type gameplay, no, I wouldn't be interested in this title at all if it was FPS based. I prefer the combat to be turned based as close to the pencil and paper as possible. Twitch FPS combat is not something desired.

If FPS were to be attempted with SR it would have to be a "target lock" aiming system based on CH skill level that way a avid FPS gamer wouldn't get any accuracy advantage. Like the Sega version but in first person.

I'm not sure if you have covered this since I haven't keep up with all the post since I'm busy doing college right now but here goes.

I was thinking the game could use the "inking" system in NWN 2 where you can change the color of your clothes this shouldn't take alot more programming to do and it would help make characters a bit more unique. Also you could put in patches that could be put on the back of peoples jackets. Just an idea.

Another idea that might not be able to make it into the intro of the game but could be added later if time and money is there, is a lifestyle for your runner.

The lifestyle could be your starting base that you are able to customize as you get more money to spend on it, this way your character is not all about his gear on the run but could buy him a nice pad to live in too.

Just an idea to give the players characters a bit more depth.
