A thumbs up and a few questions
« on: September 29, 2011, 07:18:52 pm »
Hello!

Foremost: I was thrilled to learn of this project and by reading the first newsletter on it. I have been playing SR for over a decade of my life now and I was actually already considering to develop a browser-game evolving around hacking in the SR-setting myself. I am more than happy to hear that now, I can remove this item from my to-do list ;).

After reading through the first newsletter, there still were some questions open to me tho:

1. Will this game be free-to-play, will there be an one-time fee, or will there be monthly fees / some other sort of payment required?
2. Will you use the time-management method of the original and the players will be taking turns (my favorite!) or are you trying to use a realtime implementation? If so (please not ...) will there be an option to pause? If you use the original: Will there be an option to limit the time a player has to decide on an action?
3. I already read on the forums that you are not planning to use a class system (yays), however I am not yet sure whether you mentioned yet how many options people will have to create their chars: will there be Infected? AIs? Technomancer? SURGE?
4. Last, but not least, at least not for me: is there any way to work together with you guys? I think there could be quite a few players who'd be willing to pitch in as beta-testers, as community managers (moderators) and/or work with the localisation of the game, if there are any plans to provide some.

I forced myself to refrain myself as much as possible. Thanks for reading through the posting - I am sure that I will come up with a zillion more questions on the long term. Might it be a good idea to create a F.A.Q. or simply a collection of all Q/As from this forums by the way?

Best,
Sangius

Most of my questions have been answered after working out the Q/A document. However, I was wondering: can you officially confirm that Joe "GreyPawn" Pishgar is working with you guys? And: could you clarify, please, what will happen on the 'death' of a character? And: you answered to some question that you think it might be a good scenario that a mission for six characters would be played by three players, playing two chars at once. That got me wondering: This surely only would work really within a turn-based environment. Do you agree? And: What is your general opinion on multiboxing? (I personally think it's a bit lame to play more then one character at a time, but of course it opens up certain new possibilities too)

1) Greypawn isn't part of our team of course, but a member of our advisory board, the elusive SHE...and we talk as well as listen to him :)
2) Death means your character willn not be functional until revived by either a Doc-Wagon contact or healing in a facility. As this may deadlock a character (no money to buy treatment), we are toying with a number of ideas, but generally we do want you to feel death as more than a minor inconvenience while not simply applying permadeath.
3) No this can work in real time as well, if real time actions take a certain amount, of time, but we do look to turn  based for combat, so it ins't an issue.
4) It lessens the atachment to your character a bit, but then it allows you to experience different game aspects and gameplay routes. Anyway, people can always create another account to create chars, then co-op with themselves in a turn-based game, so one may as well offer the options from the start.

Hey primetide,

thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Maybe you could add a little something about points 3 and 4 of my first posting?

How will ingame trade work by the way? Are you planning to make certain items bound to characters (other than foci, etc.) or will it be possible to trade anything, including micro-transaction items? Or are there no plans at all for trade between players?

Regarding people wanting in to help: We will of course have a need for beta tester down the road as well ass forum mods we will select from our active members  (and you have made an impressive start with your diligent work). We actually plan for a lot of real community interaction down the line, but more on that when we are closer to making it reality.

Chars- we will have to start with a limited number of choices - mostly those that are useful in action situations - hackers, combat mages, street samurai, combat riggers etc. and can actually be seen by other players (a bit of an issue with AI). we haven't decided on the possible range of careers thogh...

Ingame trade - not sure if we will have it out of the box. Plans are to allow an auction house for people to sell their crafted items, software, talismans etc., but initially we may notn have a direct trade at all.
